Introduction

Q: Why is the system not available 24 hours a day?

A: Your PIN is maintained on the State mainframe computer, which must be made unavailable for some time period each evening to perform some nightly processing. This application is unable to verify your PIN when the mainframe is unavailable.

Q: Are the hours of availability strictly enforced?

A: Typically, the mainframe becomes unavailable at the stated times ( 9:30 PM Monday - Friday, Midnight Saturday and 11:30 PM Sunday); however; the mainframe becomes available again after all nightly processing has been completed.  Adherence to this schedule means that you may occasionally be able to logon to the system before 6 AM most days or noon on Sunday.

Q: Does it cause any problems trying to logon when the mainframe is unavailable?

A: No.  Trying to logon while the mainframe is down will just cause you to get an error message stating that you can’t logon.

Enrollment

Q: Why do I have to be enrolled?

A: Some basic information must be recorded for you before any JobLink services can be provided. The enrollment process creates an initial account for you using the information on the enrollment page. Additional information, such as your address and citizenship, must be provided before the JobLink Career Center can provide you with any services.

Q: What purpose does the Reminder Question and Answer serve?

A: The Reminder Question and Answer is used as an alternative way to gain access to the system after you have enrolled. Normally, you must enter your SSN and PIN to logon to the system. However, if you forget your PIN you can provide the Answer to your Reminder Question to gain access.

Q: What is a PIN?

A: The PIN is a four digit Personal Identification Number that is used to authenticate you when you logon to the system. The concept is the same as a PIN that you use with an ATM card. You should enter a PIN that can be easily remembered by you.  Do not use a PIN that is easily guessed, such as a birth date.

Q: Why do I have to confirm my PIN when I enroll?

A: The PIN is displayed as asterisks when you type it in. The only way that we can be assured that the PIN was not typed with an error is to ask for it twice and then compare the two. If they are different you will have to enter the PIN again.

Account Management

Q: What purpose do the Manage Account functions serve?

A: These functions are used to view and modify your account information. With these functions you are able to update your contact, personal, citizenship and veteran information. You can also view your JobLink history and request services. These functions also allow you to perform maintenance functions, such as changing your PIN and changing your reminder question.

Q: What is the function of the Save and Undo buttons on the Account Information pages?

A: The Save button writes the data that you entered out to the database. The Undo button restores the data on the page to the current values in the database. Any data entry that you have performed on the page but have not yet saved will be “undone” when you select the Undo button.

Q: If I change some Account Information is it saved when I select another item from the side menu bar?

A: No.  The only way that changes are saved is when you explicitly select the Save button, or by selecting either the Next or Previous button. If you select another menu item any data that you have entered on the current page will be lost.

View History

Q: What purpose does the View History page serve?

A: The View History page displays all requests for services, core services provided and outcomes recorded by Career Center staff. The history is displayed in reverse chronological order.

Q: What are the numbers at the bottom of the View History page?

A: The numbers represent the pages of information that are available to be viewed. When there is more than one page of history you can select the page number that you wish to view.

Request Services

Q: What purpose does the Request Services function serve?

A: This function allows you to request specific types of services prior to coming to the JobLink Career Center . Once you arrive at the JobLink Career Center the staff will be able to determine the primary reasons for your visit.

Q: Where can the requested services be viewed?

A: The requested services can be seen on the View History page. They can also be seen in the Regquest Services function if they were requested on the current day. The only way to view requested services that had been recorded previously is with the View History function.

Q: Can the requested services be changed?

A: Yes.  If the requested services were entered on the current date you can “uncheck” a service or check another service to request it. Services that were requested on a previous date can not be updated.

Change PIN

Q: Why is the Change PIN function needed?

A: This function allows you to change your PIN. The PIN should be changed periodically for security purposes.

Q: Why is PIN “0000” not allowed?

A: PIN 0000 is used in the mainframe PIN file to indicate that the users PIN must be changed. Therefore, it cannot be used as a customer’s PIN. Also, PIN 0000 is very easy to hack and should not be used.

Q: Why is the current PIN needed to change the PIN?

A: This is a security measure to make sure that you really are who you say you are before changing your PIN.

Q: How can the PIN be changed if I don’t remember my current PIN?

A: You can stop by a JobLink Career Center and ask a staff member to reset your PIN.  After the PIN has been reset, you can change it to a new one.

Change Reminder

Q: Why is there a Change Reminder function?

A: This function allows you to change the reminder question and/or answer. You may want to periodically change your reminder question for security purposes.

Q: Can the answer be more than one word?

A: Yes; however, any embedded spaces will be included in the comparison you use the reminder question to log into the system.

Forgot Your PIN?

Q: What purpose does the Forget Your PIN? function serve?

A: This function provides an alternative method for you to be able to logon to the system in the event that you have forgotten your PIN. You must first provide some basic information that is used to identify your account. After you have successfully identified yourself, the system will display your reminder question and allow you to answer it. If you successfully answer the question you are given the opportunity to change your PIN so that you can logon with your SSN and PIN the next time.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of times that I can try to answer my reminder question correctly?

A: Yes.  If you answer the reminder question incorrectly three times in a row your account will be locked and you will have to request a JobLink Career Center staff member to reset your PIN. This functionality is provided for security purposes.
